Circa - 1999

December 31, 1999 We spent New Year's Eve right here in Brasilia.  We spent the afternoon at a churrasco (barbecue) on the lake with a few other teachers from school.  Later on that evening, we had people over and had champagne and watched CNN.  Before midnight, we headed down to the espilandia (the main government sector) for the fireworks show.
December 30, 1999 Chris spent most of the day checking that everything at school was all set for Y2K.
December 19 - 28, 1999 We spent the first 9 days of the Christmas break (including Christmas - with pizza - on the beach) in the south of Brasil.  We spent time in Blumenau, an old German town and Balneario Camboriu, a wonderful small beach town. We bought another boogie board. Next was Florinapolis an island bordered by fantastic beaches.
November 24 - 30, 1999 Over the Thanksgiving break, we went to Buenos Aires (their *unofficial* motto - you can't swing a dead cow without hitting a leather store).  Chris had to buy a new leather coat.  It was a very interesting city - lots of traffic, cool buildings, sights and yes, even tango.
October 14 - 17, 1999 We spent our long weekend in a city of almost 20 million people, and we only knew 2 of them. We stayed with Silvana and her son, Pedro (A.K.A. Skippy), exploring the big city.  We spent a lot of time driving around lost, but we still had a great time.  We even got to go to Wal Mart and TGIFridays.  You know you've been away too long when that's exciting!
